Commemorating Anzac Day

To acknowledge and learn more about Anzac Day, we planned a variety of different learning experiences for our little ones to explore.

One of the first things we found when we researched Anzac Day together, was the Poppy and its significance. What better way to become familiar with this flower than make some poppies of our own? Our Under 3’s used paper plates as a canvas for their red paint and made sure to cover the whole surface. They loved spreading and watching the bright red paint move across the surface of the plate and were very pleased with their creations. 😊

Our older tamariki explored books about Anzac Day and how the soldiers went to war for us. They decided it would be cool to make Anzac Day soldiers to display at the entrance of our centre. They began with life-size soldier outlines and decided to use red paint. As a finishing touch, they added black splotches to the soldiers as an abstract way to create a link between the soldiers to the Anzac Poppy. When they were finished, our tamariki were super excited and proud to display them out the front for all to see. 💖

To finish off our Anzac day exploration we decided to make some Anzac cookies. Our little ones are avid bakers and were super excited to get baking. They were familiar with measuring the different ingredients, mixing them together and rolling them into cookies on the tray. The delicious aroma filled the centre and as they cooked in the oven we had some special Anzac-themed face painting outside. 🍪🎨

On Anzac Day we remember those who have fallen and fought for our country. 🙏
